Event Description:
An Update on the Re-opening the State Park
Dennis Whitley, Park Ranger at the T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park
Hurricane Michael created two “islands” in the State Park on the St. Joe Peninsula thanks to a breech.  What is the environmental impact of the storm on the park itself and the species, many of which are endangered, who reside there? Through a slide show of photos you’ll see the destroyed campgrounds and picnic area at the park and also get an update on the construction work and the projected opening for day-use. Dennis will outline the daily dynamics of the breech in the park, as well as the condition of the dunes in the campgrounds section of the park.
Dennis Whitley has been a ranger at T.H. Stone for a year and a half and in this role serves as the Interpretive Chairman for the park. In his previous career he was a radio news director in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. His wife, Joanne, works at the Library, and they are the parents of a 24-year-old daughter named Lane who also lives in Port St Joe.
