Job Description
This position works with local officials concerning animal control and animal well-being. We operate under the guidelines and standards set by the HSUS. Below is an overview of the requirements for working as the Shelter Director.
1. Associate degree and/or business management experience. Minimum one year experience in managing an animal shelter or similar experience Located in Port St. Joe, Florida; the SJBHS is the only shelter serving Gulf County Florida. We work with.
2. Reports to the Board of Directors. Manages a staff of approximately 6 individuals. Responsible for hiring, firing, disciplinary actions and training.
3. Knowledge in temperament testing and handling animals in all situations.
4. Work with the public; volunteers, adopters, and the community at large. Also work with county officials and employees.
5. Computer skills are required, excel and word. Also responsible for record keeping, payroll, and budgeting among other functions.
6. Must be a team player and a motivator. Works to ensure daily operations run smoothly in addition to maintaining facilities and equipment.
7. We provide a unique program “DAWGS In Prison” which works with inmates in training dogs to be well trained and adoptable. Director will be responsible in overseeing this program as well.
8. The Director will also be involved in fundraising, helping with grant writing, adoption events and local functions.
9. Pay is from $28,000 to $32,000 with bonuses upon Board approval.
